World’s most pierced man turned back at Dubai airport. See his tweets

Awww, not nice. Guess there are some disadvantages to being so weirdly pierced. 53year old German Rudolf Buchlolz, who is the world's most pierced man, was barred from entering Dubai on Aug. 15th and he took to twitter to share his disappointment.

The Information Technology, IT, worker who was recognized in 2012 by the Guinness Book of Record as world's most pierced man with 435 piercings plus two horns on his forehead, was billed to make an appearance at a hotel in Dubai but on arriving the Emirate airport, he was not cleared by the immigration officers. Instead he was immediately whisked into an Istanbul flight en-route Germany.
A spokesman for the hotel where Buchholz was scheduled to appear said its management had failed “despite all its attempts” to win permission for him to enter the emirate
Airport officials gave no reason why he was refused entry into the emirate. Rudolf who vowed never to return to Dubai, left his luggage behind in Dubai.

Dear MEE readers: My fiance insists I get pregnant before he marries me

From a female MEE reader
We've been together for two years and now we are talking about getting married. Only he wants me to get pregnant first. He said wedding preparations will start immediately we find out I'm expecting. I don't know if I'm OK with this. My friends feel its outright disrespectful, saying what it means is that he wants children and not me. I hate that he's insisting I get pregnant first, but i don't want to lose him. What should I do?

US Ebola patient Dr. Kent Brantly speaks out - read his statement

Follow Mechellin Exclusive on twitter

Dr. Kent Brantly, one of the two US doctors who contracted the Ebola virus in Liberia, has spoken out for the first time. He released a statement from his isolation room at Emory University in Atlanta where he's being treated after he was flown out of Liberia last week. He is the first Ebola patient that the drug ZMapp was used on. Below is the statement Dr Brantly released to the media yesterday...
“I am writing this update from my isolation room at Emory University Hospital, where the doctors and nurses are providing the very best care possible. I am growing stronger every day, and I thank God for His mercy as I have wrestled with this terrible disease. I also want to extend my deep and sincere thanks to all of you who have been praying for my recovery as well as for Nancy and for the people of Liberia and West Africa.
“My wife Amber and I, along with our two children, did not move to Liberia for the specific purpose of fighting Ebola. We went to Liberia because we believe God called us to serve Him at ELWA Hospital." Continue...
“One thing I have learned is that following God often leads us to unexpected places. When Ebola spread into Liberia, my usual hospital work turned more and more toward treating the increasing number of Ebola patients. I held the hands of countless individuals as this terrible disease took their lives away from them. I witnessed the horror first-hand, and I can still remember every face and name.

“When I started feeling ill on that Wednesday morning, I immediately isolated myself until the test confirmed my diagnosis three days later. When the result was positive, I remember a deep sense of peace that was beyond all understanding. God was reminding me of what He had taught me years ago, that He will give me everything I need to be faithful to Him.
“Now it is two weeks later, and I am in a totally different setting. My focus, however, remains the same - to follow God. As you continue to pray for Nancy and me, yes, please pray for our recovery. More importantly, pray that we would be faithful to God’s call on our lives in these new circumstances.”

Patrick Sawyer knew he was infected with Ebola before coming to Nigeria

Follow Mechellin Exclusive on twitter

I knew it...I guessed as much.

Now more Nigerians are going to die because of him.Liberian newspaper, The new dawn reports that Sawyer, a naturalised American, looked terribly ill and deliberately avoided contacts with people just before boarding the Asky Airline flight that brought him to the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.

Sawyer bore a “sad countenance” like he was troubled and sat alone avoiding bodily contact with other passengers who came close to him at the boarding gate of the James Sprigg Payne’s Airport as he awaits his flight to Lagos.

“His strange behaviour and frequent movement up and down as he eagerly awaits his Asky flight had prompted the security camera operator to focus on him. In the video, Patrick could be seen avoiding physical contacts with airport employees and other passengers during the check in process,”Airport footage showed Mr. Sawyer lying flat on his stomach on the floor in the corridor of the airport and seemed to be in “excruciating pain.”The footage showed Mr. Sawyer preventing people from touching him.

Now Frontpage Africa chronicles, Sawyer's last moments;"Barely 24 hours before his death, Patrick Sawyer had a rather strange - and in the words of medical and diplomatic sources here, “Indiscipline” encounter with nurses and health workers at First Consultants Hospital in Obalende, one of the most crowded parts of Lagos, a population of some 21 million inhabitants.

Looking to get to the bottom of Sawyer’s strange ailment on the Asky Airline flight, which Sawyer transferred on in Togo, hospital officials say, he was tested for both malaria and HIV AIDS. However, when both tests came back negative, he was then asked whether he had made contact with any person with the Ebola Virus, to which Sawyer denied. Sawyer’s sister, Princess had died of the deadly virus on Monday, July 7, 2014 at theCatholic Hospital in Monrovia. On Friday, July 25, 2014, 18 days later, Sawyer died in Lagos.

"Upon being told he had Ebola, Mr. Sawyer went into a rage, denying andobjecting to the opinion of the medical experts“He was so adamant and difficult that he took the tubes from his body and took off his pants and urinated on the health workers, forcing them to flee

."The hospital would later report that it resisted immense pressure to let out Sawyer from its hospital against the insistence from some higher-ups and conference organizers that he had a key role to play at the ECOWAS convention in Calabar, the Cross River State capital. In fact, FrontPageAfrica has been informed that officials in Monrovia were in negotiations with ECOWAS to have Sawyer flown back to Liberia.A text message in possession of FrontPageAfrica from the ECOWAS Ambassador in Liberia, responding to a senior GoL official reads: Your Excellency, the disease control department of the Federal Ministry of Health just contacted me through the hospital now, insisting that Mr. Sawyer be evacuated for now. Pls advise urgently

.”In the aftermath of Sawyer’s death, diplomatic, ECOWAS and medical authorities here are baffled over Sawyer’s deception, especially armed with new information that his sister, Princess had died of the deadly virus and his denial. Finance Ministry sources in Monrovia are in quiet murmur over what they feel was a letdown by Sawyer for not being forthcoming with his peers he worked with.

The ministry has since been temporarily shut down and those who came in contact with Sawyer are on a 21-day forced incubation monitoringprocess. "All senior officials coming in direct or indirect contact with Mr. Sawyer has been placed on the prescribed 21 days of observatory surveillance,

" the ministry said in a statement this week.Sawyer exhibited similar indiscipline behavior during his sister’s stay at the Catholic Hospital in Monrovia where she was taken because he noticed she was bleeding profusely and was later found to be a victim of Ebola.Sawyer was seen with blood on his clothing after his sister’s death and had earlier demanded that she be placed in a private room.President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf cited indiscipline and disrespect as a key reason why Sawyer contracted the Ebola virus.

She said his failure to heed medical advice put the lives of other residents across the nation’s border at risk.

Ebola virus: From symptoms of common cold to bleeding out the ears and eyes

ebolla-infectionThat the Ebola virus has killed close to 700 people across mostly three countries  since a new outbreak in February this year is no longer news. There has been over 1200 cases in this particular outbreak which has been described as the largest outbreak of Ebola ever recorded.
Not only has the virus spread from the primarily remote villages in  Central and West Africa tropical rainforests where it was, before now, prevalent, this virus which is one of the deadliest viruses ever known to man, has stealthily crept across  West African countries of Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone and has been  reported to have killed one in Lagos.
With members of the public succumbing to the blow from the virus, health workers, in spite of precautionary steps, are usually the worst hit. Besides local health practitioners who have, over the years, contracted the virus, foreign health workers providing charity services have also been affected.
Just recently, two doctors leading the fight against the disease in Africa – Dr. Samuel Brisbane, a top Liberian health official, and Sheik Umar Khan, a leading Sierra Leone doctor – have both died after contracting Ebola.
In the past week, there have been reports that health workers working at a charity centre for the Ebola virus in Liberia have been hit by the ravaging virus.
The health workers, both of whom are Americans, worked for the humanitarian organisation, Samaritan’s Purse, which has an Ebola care centre at the  outskirts of Monrovia, Liberia.
Dr. Ken Brantly, the 33-year-old Medical  Director for the care centre, was previously confirmed as infected with the  virus and just last week, Nancy Writebol, a Christian missionary who had been working as a  hygienist decontaminating those entering and leaving the Ebola care area at  the hospital, was showing full symptoms of the virus.
Though both Americans have been isolated and are under intensive treatment, Ken  Isaacs, the Christian relief group’s Vice President of Program and  Government Relations, said the fact that health care workers have been  infected underscores the severity of the West Africa outbreak that has  killed hundreds in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea.
“It’s been a shock to everyone on our team to have two of our players get  pounded with the disease,” said Isaacs, adding that health ministries in those  poor nations are challenged to respond. “Our team is frankly getting  tired,” he stated.
Cambridge University’s Dr Peter Walsh, a lecturer in archaeology and  anthropology and an Ebola expert, said: “This strain of Ebola is probably the  second most deadly virus in the world after canine rabies. If you get  canine rabies, you’re going to die, but we have vaccines for that.” Ebola  virus, on the hand, currently has no vaccine or cure.
Though Ebola is introduced into the human population through close contact  with the blood, secretions, organs or other bodily fluids of infected  animals especially fruit bats and spreads in the community through human-to-human transmission,  with infection resulting from direct contact (through broken skin or mucous  membranes) with the blood, secretions, organs or other bodily fluids of  infected people, and indirect contact with environments contaminated with such fluid,
there are silent fears that the virus might have mutated and can now  be spread by airborne means and not just only through body secretions. One theory that fuels this suspicion is the fact that the two US Doctors, who  have now contracted Ebola in Liberia, did so despite adequate protection.
Additionally, one study carried out by Canadian researchers in 2012 showed  how monkeys can catch the deadly disease from infected pigs without coming  into direct contact, thus raising concerns about the previously thought idea that the untreatable virus, which causes massive internal  bleeding and multiple organ failure, could only be transmitted through  contact with infected bodily fluids.
The researchers at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg deliberately infected six piglets with the Ebola virus and put them in pens where macaque monkeys were housed in wire cages.
Within eight days all four monkeys caught the virus through indirect contact, according to the 2012 study entitled “Transmission of Ebola virus from pigs to non-human primate” published in the journal Scientific Reports. Dr Gary Kobinger,  Head, Special Pathogens at the National Microbiology Laboratory of the Public Health Agency of Canada took part in the study.
He told BBC News that they suspect that large droplets of moisture containing the virus were being exhaled with the piglets’ breath.
“They (the virus) can stay in the air, but not long; they don’t go far,” he told the press men. “But they can be absorbed in the airway and this is how the infection starts, and this is what we think, because we saw a lot of evidence in the lungs of the non-human primates that the virus got in that way,” he disclosed.
ebolla-infection3a
Further work is needed but the findings are worrying as macaques are close genetic relatives to humans, said the researchers.
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), Ebola has a death rate of between 50 and 90 per cent and  there are no specific treatments for the disease— treatment is primarily  supportive and includes balancing fluids and electrolytes to counter  dehydration.
Perhaps, what makes the virus more petrifying is the fact that the initial  signs of infection imitate other diseases, like common cold, malaria or typhoid. According to the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the incubation period for Ebola  ranges from two to 21 days. The onset of illness is abrupt and is characterised by fever, headache, joint and muscle aches, sore throat, and weakness, followed by diarrhoea, vomiting, and stomach pain. A rash, red eyes and hiccups may also be seen. The virus pierces veins and capillaries, forcing the blood vessels to bleed into the surrounding tissue, resulting in internal bleeding in mostly  the gastrointestinal tract and other internal organs. The virus  aggressively wipes out the building blocks of the body’s immune system and tiny blood vessels burst, causing patients to spontaneously bleed from their eyes, mouths, ears, and other orifices.
Researchers do not understand why some people are able to recover from Ebola and others are not. However, it is known that patients who die usually have not developed a significant immune response to the virus at the time of death.
statistical-analysisFor those infected who survive, recovery could be quick and total, or prolonged with long-term problems including joint pain, muscle pain, skin peeling and hair loss.
In spite of the grim realities of this disease, researchers have been working round the clock to provide a vaccine, if not a cure to combat it.
Dr Kobinger, who recently returned from the front lines of the outbreak in West Africa, said that he believes this is the last time the world would have to combat the virus without specific treatments or protective vaccines. He added that the outbreak is the most challenging of the six Ebola responses he has been on, but he believes the containment efforts are making progress.
He suggested this outbreak will speed efforts to get emergency use approvals to employ some of the experimental vaccines and therapies in future Ebola epidemics.
“My really, really deepest wish — and I don’t want to call this a dream, because it’s not a dream — is that there won’t be another outbreak like this. This is the last one. Next time, we’ll be ready,” Kobinger said in an interview with the Canadian Press.
But Kobinger agreed with others in his field who have argued that it would be unwise to use untested tools this time, saying the Ebola vaccines and drugs must go through Phase 1 clinical trials in people before they could be used in an outbreak setting. Phase 1 trials involve giving a drug or vaccine to a small number of healthy adult volunteers to ensure that it is safe for human use.
“These are all experimental drugs that have not met the requirements, even for a Phase 1 (trial) right now in humans. So, they have to pass all the toxicity (tests), and the safety trials,” he said.
The WHO Regional Director for the Africa Region, Dr Luis Sambo, in a fact-finding mission to the three currently most affected countries, underscored the seriousness of the outbreak while reiterating that it can be contained using known infection prevention and control measures. He observed that the outbreak is beyond each national health sector alone and urged the governments of the affected countries to mobilise and involve all sectors, including civil society and communities, in the response.
Currently, the only way of combating infection is by prevention. If a person is in an area affected by the outbreak, or has been in contact with a person known or suspected to have Ebola, they should seek medical help immediately. This is not the time to visit spiritual houses or hide the victim. According to the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, preventive measures include the following:
Practice careful hygiene. Avoid contact with blood and body fluids of severely ill people. Do not handle items that may have come in contact with an infected person’s blood or body fluids.
Avoid funeral or burial rituals that require handling the body of someone who has died from Ebola.
Avoid contact with animals or with raw meat.
Avoid hospitals where Ebola patients are being treated.
Seek medical care if you develop fever, headache, achiness, sore throat, diarrhea, vomiting, stomach pain, rash, or red eyes.
For health workers, who may be exposed to people with the disease, the following steps can be taken:
Wear protective clothing, including masks, gloves, gowns, and eye protection.
Practice proper infection control and sterilization measures.
Isolate Ebola patients from unprotected people.
Avoid direct contact with the bodies of people who died from Ebola.
Notify health officials if you have been exposed to someone with Ebola.

Pic of 'ghost wielding axe' aboard old military ship causes storm

Follow Mechellin Exclusive on twitter

A photo showing a 'ghost wielding an axe' and peering around a doorway on board an old military decommissioned vessel has caused quite a stir. The photo was posted on Imgur by a dock worker named Stevgoldhound.
"Last month we came into dry dock to carry out refit and repairs. Next to us was an old Military frigate being broken down for scrap. Once all the sensitive stuff had been removed, the dock workers were free to go on. The dock foreman, 'John' went on board first with a camera to take pictures of work areas. He later sent all of the pics to his boss, who upon seeing this one, called John straight away asking 'Who is the guy with the axe at the edge of the camera flash?' John had no idea. He never saw anyone. Due to the fact that it was a military vessel the police were called.
"A search was carried out but no one was found. There was one way on and off the ship, and that was by a gangway covered by CCTV."Stevgoldhound said
An Imgur user helped Stevgoldhound to clean up the image, and adjusted the light levels to reveal an even more haunting picture. Continue...

Of course it might be a hoax, but when the enhanced image was posted on Reddit, some users suggested another explanation.

"It just looks like an old hobo who was startled that someone was in his home taking pictures so he grabbed an axe and peeked around a corner to see what was up," said one.
Another added: "If this man had been living on the vessel for any amount of time he knows the floor layout better than a bunch of random cops.
"The ships are huge, you could disappear for a long time in one."

But Stevgoldhound is not convinced:
I am a sceptic. Maybe its a trick of the flash reflecting off something, but if you really zoom in you can just make out the f*****s face, ear, collar of his jacket and the f*****g axe in a meaty f*****g fist. Now it could be John blowing smoke up my ass, but when he was telling the story he seemed genuinely rattled. And the guy in the pic looks nothing any of the other workers we met at the dock. This gave me serious goosebumps. Needless to say, I did not go on board for a look."
Do you think the man is a ghost.. ?
